Multiorgan Failure
A number of toxins lead to failure of multiple organs (commonly renal, hepatic, respiratory, cardiac, haematological and neurological).
These are thankfully rare but include:
- A number of plants/mushrooms
- Heavy metals
- Mercury
- Thallium
It is important to diagnose poisoning with metals as they have different requirements for decontamination and chelation therapy may be indicated.
