Marine Poisoning

Marine poisoning occurs when marine animals containing toxic substances are ingested. The toxins accumulate in the fish or invertebrates rather than the creature having a venom apparatus to inject the venom which occurs with envenomation. Most marine poisoning syndromes cause neurotoxicity, including ciguatera, paralytic and neurotoxic shellfish poisoning and tetrodotoxin (fish) poisoning.
