Though it is often ineffective, lignocaine can be given rapidly and is metabolised rapidly. It is also the antiarrhythmic drug least likely to contribute to proarrhythmic effects and does not usually cause significant hypotension or bradycardia.

Other traditional antiarrhythmic drugs (e.g. bretylium, amiodarone, and sotalol) used in ventricular tachycardia are likely to further impair cardiac conduction and have no data to support their use in poisoning.
