Though it is often ineffective, lignocaine can be given rapidly and is metabolised rapidly. It is also the [[:wikitox:3.4.3.4_antiarrhythmics|antiarrhythmic drug]] least likely to contribute to proarrhythmic effects and does not usually cause significant hypotension or bradycardia.

Other traditional antiarrhythmic drugs (e.g. bretylium, [[:wikitox:3.4.3.4.3_amiodarone|amiodarone]], and sotalol) used in ventricular tachycardia are likely to further impair cardiac conduction and have no data to support their use in poisoning.
