====== Drug Monitoring ======

A [[:wikitox:2.1.1.1_acetaminophen|paracetamol]] concentration should be done in all unconscious poisonings. Its presence increases the likelihood of ingestion of [[:wikitox:2.1.1.3_opioids|codeine]] or [[:wikitox:2.1.1.3_opioids|dextropropoxyphene]].

Blood concentrations are generally unhelpful but should be done if there is suspicion of ingestion of [[:wikitox:2.1.11.9.4_mood_stabilizers|lithium]] or [[:wikitox:2.1.11.2_anticonvulsants|anticonvulsants]] (carbamazepine, phenytoin, valproate).

A normal plasma cholinesterase excludes significant [[:wikitox:2.2.7.4.5_organophosphates|organophosphate]] poisoning but may be normal in [[:wikitox:2.2.7.4.1_carbamates|carbamate]] poisoning.
